In 2024 I went to Murren for my birthday weekend. I hadn't been there since I had worked taking groups of trekkers across the Bernese Overland high passes in 2006/7. The painting has particular significance as at the end of the summer season my co leader and I climbed up the Monch. It was an exhilarating experience to be at the summit on a really small ledge. The scale of the mountains in this area is immense, even though they are not as high as the Himalayas.
